I would say there are simpler ways to achieve the same results (separate Campfire chat room just for written Standups works great, for instance) and I also find Google Docs promote bad habits. Trello, meh. Using Github Issues is perhaps the simplest way of dealing with work scheduling.
However, the concepts covered are the foundations of remote work; team, tools, and process. They are not rocket science, and in fact, you would likely use most of the tools in non-remote work anyway.
